Custom-made knee braces in Etobicoke
Made to measure for knee arthritis, meniscus and ligament injuries. Assessed, measured and fitted at our clinic by your physiotherapist.
Who a custom knee brace can help
A brace works best alongside exercise and treatment, not instead of it.
Knee osteoarthritis
An offloading (unloader) brace shifts some of the load away from the worn side of the knee, which can make walking and standing more comfortable.
Meniscus injuries
A supportive brace adds stability and confidence while the knee recovers and you return to activity.
Ligament injuries
A ligament brace controls unwanted knee movement and protects the knee after ACL, MCL and other ligament injuries, before or after surgery.
Knee pain on walking or standing
For people whose knee pain limits how far they can walk or how long they can stand.
Staying active
For people who want to keep walking, working or playing sport with arthritis or after a knee injury.
Returning to sport
Support and confidence for cutting, pivoting and jumping after a ligament injury. See post-surgery rehab.
How it works
From assessment to fitting, at our clinic.
Assessment
We assess your knee and tell you whether a brace is likely to help. Not everyone needs one, and we will tell you if you don't.
Measurements and photos
We take measurements and photos of your leg so the brace is made to its shape.
Your brace is made
Your brace is made to measure from your measurements.
Fitting and follow-up
We fit and adjust the brace at the clinic, show you how to put it on, and check how it works for you.
Why custom-made
A custom-made brace is built to the shape of your leg, so it fits better and stays in place better than an off-the-shelf brace. It is usually:
- More comfortable to wear for longer periods
- Less likely to slide down the leg
- Matched to your knee condition and activity level
- Combined with a home exercise program to strengthen the muscles around the knee
Insurance: Many extended health plans cover custom-made knee braces, and most require a doctor's prescription. Check your plan before ordering. We give you a receipt and the paperwork your insurer needs.
Common questions
Do I need a doctor's prescription?
Not to be assessed. You can see a physiotherapist directly. Most insurance plans require a doctor's prescription to cover a custom brace, so check your plan before ordering.
Is a brace covered by insurance?
Many extended health plans cover custom knee braces, often with a set limit. Check your plan. We give you a receipt and the paperwork your insurer needs.
Will a brace fix my arthritis?
No. A brace can reduce strain on the knee and make activity more comfortable, but it does not reverse arthritis. It works best with exercise and treatment.
Do I still need physiotherapy?
Usually, yes. Strengthening the muscles around the knee is one of the most effective things you can do for knee arthritis. See knee pain and arthritis.
Can foot orthotics help my knee?
Sometimes. When the way your feet move adds strain to your knees, custom foot orthotics may also help.
