When the way your feet move adds strain to your knees. See knee pain and arthritis.
Back and hip pain
When foot mechanics contribute to strain higher up. See back pain and sciatica.
How it works
From assessment to fitting, at our clinic.
Assessment
We assess your feet, posture and the way you walk, and tell you whether orthotics are likely to help.
Casting
We take a cast of your feet so the orthotics match their shape.
Your orthotics are made
Your orthotics are made from the cast.
Fitting and follow-up
We fit your orthotics, check them in your shoes, and adjust them if needed.
Why custom-made
Custom orthotics are made from a cast of your own feet, not a standard size. They are usually:
- Matched to the shape of your feet
- Designed for your condition and the shoes you wear
- More durable than most off-the-shelf insoles
- Combined with exercises for the feet and legs when needed
Insurance: Many extended health plans cover custom-made foot orthotics, and most require a doctor's prescription. Check your plan before ordering. We give you a receipt and the paperwork your insurer needs.
Common questions
Do I need a doctor's prescription?
Not to be assessed. You can see a physiotherapist directly. Most insurance plans require a doctor's prescription to cover custom orthotics, so check your plan before ordering.
Are orthotics covered by insurance?
Many extended health plans cover custom orthotics, often one pair every one to three years up to a set amount. Check your plan. We give you a receipt and the paperwork your insurer needs.
Will they fit in my shoes?
Bring the shoes you wear most often to your assessment so we can make sure the orthotics fit them.
How long do I need to get used to them?
Most people wear them for a few hours a day at first and build up over one to two weeks.
What should I bring?
The shoes you wear most often, your insurance details, and a doctor's prescription if your plan requires one.
